Interior Design
You have two main options when it comes to interior design for the home. You can firstly either implement your own interior design ideas or you can bring in an interior design professional or company to do it for you. Some interior design companies will offer a basic service where they suggest ideas and help you make plans whilst others will offer a full service where they then also do the work for you. Obviously, the more they do for you, the more you'll pay for the service.
If you are happy putting your own ideas into practice then you might want to look at some interior design magazines and websites. This will give you some ideas and will also help you work out what will work and, perhaps most importantly, what won't!
The key thing to remember when you are 'doing up' a room is that this isn't just about decorating it in your favourite colours and cramming in your favourite pieces of furniture. You also need to put some thought into the room you'll be designing itself. So, for example, try to pick up basic interior design tips to make sure you make the most of the room you'll be working on.
For example, if you plan on decorating a small room in dark colours then you could make it look even smaller. In general terms paler colours will make rooms look bigger and darker ones will make them look smaller. There's no reason why you cannot use darker colours in smaller rooms but you may want to ration their use and mix them with paler complementing shades to maximise your space.
Don't make rash decisions here and take some time to think about different options before you choose the one that's right for you. Try out different paint colours and swatches and wait a while before choosing one.
If you are looking to use an interior designer then make sure to talk through what you want and your general likes and dislikes before the designer makes a start. It is important to also check how much the designer/company will charge for the work that they do before they make a start. Make it very clear what you want doing whether you want a designer to work on your entire home or simply on one room.
